Brook Trout — Naturalist Field Plate | Printable Fish Wall Art for Anglers
Brook Trout · Salvelinus fontinalis
A museum-quality naturalist print of the Brook Trout, illustrated in the tradition of vintage natural history field guides — with accurate taxonomy, a native range map, and true-to-life detail. Researched from trusted sources and composed with care.
Every Ashborn plate is built the way a naturalist would have wanted it: the correct order, family, genus and species; a faithful range map; and the details that reward a closer look — the marbled vermiculation across the back, the red spots ringed in blue, the white-edged fins, and the cold headwater streams it cannot live without.
Despite the name, it is not a trout at all. Brook trout are char — and you can read it off the fish itself: pale marbling on a dark back, where a true trout carries dark spots on a pale one. It is also one of the least forgiving fish in North America. It needs cold, clean, well-oxygenated water, and where it disappears, the water has usually changed first.
